New York- Matt Ryan threw for 199 yards but no scores as the Atlanta Falcons were shut out offensively by the New York Giants 24-2. Atlanta’s lone score came on a safety sack of Eli Manning 1:52 into the game. After that it was all New York.
The Falcons couldn’t sustain drives all day and were stuffed on fourth-and-ones on their two deepest drives of the game. Falcons’ running back Michael Turner was never able to get it going ending the game with only 41 yards on 15 carries.
The game was still in reach for Atlanta after halftime with the score only 7-2 but things started to get away from them when Ahmad Bradshaw broke free for 30 yards down the right sideline. He would be brought down at the Falcons’ 5-yard line by Thomas DeCoud.
Atlanta’s defense held forcing the Giants to kick a field goal but on the Giants’ next possession Eli Manning would hit Hakeem Nicks up the middle for a 72-yard touchdown pass.
New York carried their momentum into the fourth quarter scoring off a 27-yard touchdown pass to Mario Manningham a little over five minutes into the period.
Atlanta’s offense would get two more chances to try and put some points on the board but New York’s defense would complete their shutout effort of the hapless Falcons.
This makes three straight one-and-done appearances for the Falcons since Mike Smith took over as head coach ending another promising season with a lopsided loss.
