There once was a buzz in the city of Jacksonville about who the new ownership and coaches would choose to join the Jaguars’ receiving corps. The 2 receivers that were at the top of everyone’s list may be be off the market. According to numerous sources, Bills WR Stevie Johnson is extremely close to signing a new deal to stay in Buffalo, in which the 3rd year receiver will receive 5 year, $36.25 million and $19.5 in GTD money. Yes, you read that correctly. A receiver that has just over 2,100 career yards and 170 receptions will be making that kind of money. Compared to Desean Jackson, Johnson is the choice for sure, but Jackson seems to bring more to the table, including a gigantic ego. There are 2 ways to look at the Eagles’ Jackson: he is a prima donna and a disease in the locker room. The 2nd reason is that this guy
REALLY wants out of Philly. I hope for the second, as a football fan, but none the less, the Eagles appear to be ready to take Jackson off the market with the infamous “franchise tag.” This, no doubt will send Jackson through the roof. Overall, I would take Jackson over every free agent receiver out there for many reasons: He is still young, he has proved that he can be a #1 or #2, for the most part he seems to stay healthy, and the most important thing in my book: he returns punts. Time will tell for the future of the Jags’ receiving core, but it looks like 2 huge names just came off the board. Only time will tell….
