The Hurricanes held their first spring scrimmage Saturday morning in Hialeah.
The team announced that redshirt sophomore DB Keion Payne is no longer with the team. He played two games last season. He had been suspended for the first two spring practices for violating team policy. A reason was not given for his dismissal.
Former Cane Ray Lewis’ son, Ray Lewis III visited the campus on Monday and immediately committed to the Hurricanes. “It was a pretty exciting day. My mom and dad both went to Miami so with that, on top of everything else, I just felt like everything was perfect,” Lewis III said. He will be either a running back or a safety. The third Ray Lewis rushed for 2,321 yards last season with 28 touchdowns for Lake Mary Prep in Central Florida.
2012 Key Games: The Canes open up on the road on September 1st against Boston College. September 15th will be the home opener when they host Bethune-Cookman. On October 6th Miami will travel to Soldier Field in Chicago to take on Notre Dame. Arch-rival Florida State comes to Miami on October 20th and the Virginia Tech Hokies come to town for a Thursday night matchup November 1st. The Hurricanes host the USF Bulls on November 17th.
Miami had the 9th best recruiting class in the country in 2012 according to Rivals.com.
