The Orlando Magic have acquired Gustavo Ayon from the New Orleans Hornets in exchange for Ryan Anderson. Anderson, winner of the Most Improved Player award, was never in the plans for Rob Hennigan who had planned on letting his forward walk this off-season.
The Magic originally acquired Anderson as a throw-in in the deal that brought Vince Carter from New Jersey to Orlando. Anderson spent three seasons in Orlando, and finished the 2011-12 season averaging career-highs with 16.1 points-per-game and 7.7 rebounds.
As for forward Gustavo Ayon, Ayon played 54 games for the Hornets (24 starts) averaging 5.9 points-per-game and 4.9 rebounds-per-contest in his rookie campaign. To make room for Anderson, the Hornets are expected to cut Marco Belinelli, Carl Landry, and Chris Kaman to free up cap space.
